XC Ski
Registration opens on Monday, October 18th, 2021!

Hopkinton Parks and Recreation is once again offering Cross-country to our community.  Cross-country skiing is a great outdoor experience for all ages.

Our program instructors will teach you the basic skills of Cross-country skiing. Learning skills like push-off, gliding, turning, and stopping on flat and hilly terrain, will get you outside, exercising and enjoying the beauty of winter.

Our youth program will meet for four weeks on Wednesdays, beginning January 12th, 2022 at Hopkinton High School on fields 7 and 8, next to the turf fields.

Our High School/Adult program offers the option to meet for one or two weeks on Saturdays, beginning January 15th, 2022 at the Fruit Street field complex. This location offers access to more trails and advanced skills as the weeks progress.

Details on drop off and pick up times will be provided prior to the start of the program.

Parks and Recreation does not provide equipment. There are many ski stores in the surrounding area. Here are a few we suggest to buy/rent cross-country skis. Please be aware that rental options are limited this year due to increased popularity of the sport so do not delay in securing your skis!

Youth Program Descriptions
Session 1: No experience needed. We will teach you the basic skills of Cross-country skiing. You will learn skills like push-off, gliding, turning, and stopping on flat and hilly terrain.

Session 2: Prerequisite: Participant should have taken Session 1, or have skied at least one season and knows how to diagonal stride. We will build upon the basic skills learned/mastered in session 1. Our instructors will use Session 2 to advance the students as well as bring their new skills out to the trails! We will build on the foundational skills taught in session 1, and introduce the skill of double polling, and work on skiing up and down hill. We plan to hold this session at Pratt Farm/Fruit Street to have access to more trails and snow. This location will allow our students to ski on an actual trail. Your child should have enough endurance to ski a longer distance (up to a mile).
