6:00 PM - 9:00 PM    Pet First Aid & CPR - Pet First Aid and CPR - Winter 2025 - Feb 24 &25
Our pets are more than just animals living in our homes, they are family members that provide us with unconditional love, laughter, and tremendous comfort. We do the best we can for them yet so many people are unaware of what to do in the event of a sudden illness or accident involving our four footed friend. Four footed Family’s Pet Emergency Care Education classes provide pet families and pet professionals with the tools they need to be the first responders for an animal in need before professional care can be reached. This two day class takes place on Day 1 over zoom from 6:00-9:00pm. Day 2 is a 3 hour in person hands on workshop at the Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Office from 6:00-9:00pm.  About Four Footed Family: My name is Laura McCallion, I am the Lead Instructor and Founder of Four Footed Family. For 20 years I have been teaching people how to help one another in the event of illness or an accident through traditional First Aid & CPR training. After the very sudden and unexpected death of one of my very beloved dogs, Chance, I began questioning whether I had missed a sign or didn't see something that could have helped save Chance's life. I went in search of knowledge and what I found was a new path for my life. I thought, having owned pets forever that I knew a lot about proper care and emergencies that could happen with them, however, through my training to become a Pet Emergency Care Instructor, I discovered that there are so many things I didn't know. Our pets can't tell us when something hurts and often they mask it when they are in pain so becoming very familiar with what your pet's "normal" is can go a long way to knowing quickly when something is wrong. I have made it my mission to share what I have learned, and so much more with pet families and professionals so that just as I have helped people be prepared for the worst day of someone else's life, I could help pet parents, families, and pet professionals be prepared to do whatever they can to help in the event of the worst day in an animal's life.I hope you will join one of our classes and realize that you have so much to give an injured or ill animal and your help could save a life.

Each project will be inspired by a different masterpiece.Grades 3-5; Fridays, January 17-April 11Introduction to Realistic Figure DrawingFocus on drawing realistically through exercises, observation and learning techniques from other artists. Each week we will start with warmup exercises to get our hands loose and our eyes keen. Although we will learn how to render individual elements like eyes, noses, hair and hands, focus will be to train the artist's brain to “to draw what you see, not what you think it should be.” Outside of class drawing is suggested, but not required. You are encouraged to bring in your own sketchbooks as well to discuss individual progress, obstacles, and questions. Grades 7-12; Mondays, January 27-March 10Gyotaku: Adult & Child Workshop!Experience the intersection of art, nature, culture, and science in this 2-hour printing workshop. Gyotaku, or "fish impression" is a traditional Japanese form of nature printing, a practice used by fishermen dating back to the mid-1800s. Today, we can use rubber fish to practice these direct printing techniques with ink, paint, and rice paper. Japanese fishermen used this printmaking method to record and track the types of fish found in local bodies of water before cameras and technology were available. The teacher, Ms. Judy, will demonstrate the method using a real fish before participants get the chance to practice using rubber whole fish. This hands-on workshop allows everyone to make several prints, discovering the wonderful textures and patterns that will be unveiled through the printmaking process. While our prints dry, we will enjoy a snack break (goldfish!) and time for socializing before we get the chance to bring them to life with color. Dress to mess!Adults and Children 8+; Saturday, March 1
