How can you begin your Hopkinton Middle School experience with a positive impact?
Creative thinkers entering Grade 6 can join their peers in the Middle School Library for an exciting design challenge. Working in teams, kids will use Design Thinking to develop prototypes that help students adjust to the challenges of middle school life.
Teams will have access to a variety of technology like 3D design and printing, circuits, green screen video, website development, mobile app development and coding along with hands-on maker materials. Participants will work with teachers and experts as they navigate their way through STEAM-based problem solving. They will experience authentic learning as they discuss, plan, and execute solutions to the problems they care about.
Please bring a nut free snack, lunch and a refillable water bottle. All technology will be provided.
Educators Involved
Stephanie Doty is the Technology Integration Coordinator for Marathon, Elmwood, and Hopkins schools. She teaches 4th and 5th-grade technology classes at Hopkins School and presents about design thinking at educational technology conferences.
Lauren McDonough is a 6th-grade English teacher at the Middle School. She has taught courses in Digital and Media Literacy.

Refund Policy
If you withdraw from a program at anytime prior to two weeks before the program start date, you will receive an account credit good towards other Parks and Recreation programs. Account credits do not expire. Account credit will not be issued if the cancellation takes places within two weeks of the program start date. Cancellations due to a medical emergency will have the option to receive an account credit or a refund at anytime with proper medical documentation. If a program is cancelled by Parks and Recreation, you will have the option to receive an account credit or a refund for that program.
