Demystifying Stocks - An Immersive Workshop Empowering Women and Teens

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

The goal of this workshop is to teach the basics and essentials of stocks, trading and investments, to women and teens. This is a female instructor led workshop geared towards women and teens. However, it is open to any person that is interested in learning these fundamentals.

What to expect?
You begin with the basic concepts and no prior knowledge or experience is required. The workshop uses a game that gives you $100,000 of pretend money to practice and play using techniques taught in the workshop. No real money will be used in this game. This provides an engaging and compelling way to learn different concepts about finance and stock markets. At the end of this immersive and fun workshop, you will have an understanding of stock markets, trading, and different financial instruments.
Please note that this workshop does not provide investment advice. The workshop instructor is not a financial advisor and is not affiliated with any financial company.

Why the focus on Women and Teens?
Bridging the gender gap
It is a well known fact that a large gender gap exists in financial literacy. If you google the terms ‘Financial literacy and Gender Gap’ you will find numerous  articles and white papers on the issues and facts surrounding this gender gap. While these issues can be complex and vary depending on cultural, social and economic factors, it is important to provide easy access to basic financial education that provides a footing into the financial world of stocks, and to begin bridging this gap.
Financial literacy empowers youth
Beginning financial education at an early age is critical to a young person’s long-term financial well-being. While there are plenty of resources for teens and youth to learn about credit, debt, insurance and taxes, this workshop provides a unique way using a hands-on gamified experience to learn about what investing in stocks is all about.

Considering the gaps in financial literacy, this workshop is geared mainly towards the stated demographic above, however, if you feel you would benefit from this workshop, irrespective of gender, age and other socio-economic or cultural status, please  register for this workshop. Everyone is welcome!

Participants from previous workshop series joined with some of these goals:
• I want to be part of discussions involving stocks and trading, at home and at work.
• I want to learn how investment decisions are made.
• I want to learn the terminology to participate in conversations.
• I want to get into trading but it seems overwhelming.

Prerequisites:
• Interest, inclination and willingness to learn about financial markets and trading
• Access to a desktop/laptop with internet connection

NOTE: Zoom information will be sent prior to the first class.
