Hopkinton Parks and Recreation is once again offering cross-country skiing to our community. Cross-country skiing is a great outdoor experience for all ages. This program will get you outside, exercising and enjoying the beauty of winter in New England.
Our youth program will meet for six weeks on Wednesdays, beginning January 11th, 2023 at Hopkinton High School on fields 7 and 8, next to the turf fields.
Over the six weeks, our program instructors will teach you the basic skills of cross-country skiing. Early session classes will focus on learning basic skills like push-off, gliding, turning, and stopping on flat and hilly terrain. Throughout the program the instructors will build upon the basic skills and introduce more advanced skills such as double polling and skiing up and down hill among others.
Parks and Recreation does not provide equipment. There are many ski stores in the surrounding area. Here are a few we suggest to buy/rent cross-country skis. Please be aware that rental options are limited this year due to increased popularity of the sport so do not delay in securing your skis!

Youth Program Descriptions
No experience needed. We will teach you the basic skills of Cross-country skiing. You will learn skills like push-off, gliding, turning, and stopping on flat and hilly terrain.
We will build upon the basic skills learned/mastered in the first three weeks of the session. Our instructors will use the last three sessions to advance the students as well as bring their new skills out to the trails! We will build on the foundational skills taught in the first half and introduce the skill of double polling, and work on skiing up and down hill.

Marisa FitzPatrick
Marisa was a competitive cross country ski racer from a young age through her collegiate years, racing for the University of New Hampshire and at the Junior National level. Marisa has a background in recreation management and has previously coached track and field programs for other recreation departments. Marisa is excited to provide cross country skiing to the Hopkinton community.
