Early release programs encourage creative expression. Our goals are to encourage life-long learning, develop and promote self-expression, and challenge students to develop their own ideas and ultimately communicate them through the arts.
September 13
Clay Creations: Animals Acting Like People
Use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! Make and decorate your favorite animal and create it out of clay doing one of your favorite activities, think penguins at the beach, pandas playing soccer, elephants playing with toys! items of your own design that will be fired and ready for pick up three weeks after the class. Please note: Finished works will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Dance it Out!: Hip Hop and the Art of Grafiti
Get your body moving after school! We will play movement based games to explore energy, imagery, and more and connect it to a grafiti style craft. Put on your creative thinking caps to discover new ways to move your body and get your energy up after an early day of school!
October 18
Clay Creations: Halloween Theme!
Use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! We'll get into the spirit of Halloween by creating wild and wacky Halloween monsters as we learn hand-building techniques including slab, coil and pinching. Everyone will get the chance to make and decorate items of your own design that will be fired and ready for pick up three weeks after the class. Please note: Finished works will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Bag Painting Workshop
Spend this early release day creatively decorating a bag with your own design! We'll use our imagination, fabric paints, and a blank canvas bag to bring life to a bag that you will take home at the end of the workshop.
November 8
Clay Creations: Leaf Bowls & Mini Dippers
Use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! We'll work on a fall-themed project, making either leaf bowls or mini dippers that can be used for Thanksgiving! Everyone will get the chance to make and decorate items of your own design that will be fired and ready for pick up three weeks after the class. Please note: Finished works will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Dance it Out!: Ballet and Storytelling
Get your body moving after school! We will play movement based games to explore energy, imagery, and more and connect it to a story ballet craft. Put on your creative thinking caps to discover new ways to move your body after an early day of school!
November 15
Clay Creations: Self Portrait Masks
Use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! We'll explore making wacky self-portrait masks. Everyone will get the chance to make and decorate items of your own design that will be fired and ready for pick up three weeks after the class. Please note: Finished works will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Traditional Indian Art
Get creative and have fun while learning the rich culture of India and its traditional art forms.
November 22
Clay Creations: Clay Food
Use your imagination and get your hands dirty with clay! We will make ceramic food or containers, from junk food (hamburgers, fries), fruits (oranges, apples, pineapple), or veggies (avacados, eggplants). Everyone will get the chance to make and decorate items of your own design that will be fired and ready for pick up three weeks after the class. Please note: Finished works will be ready for pick up in 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Play in a Day!
Create new original work using inspiration from the information we get from stories! Under the guidance of instructor Emily Vincent, students will use one story or a collection of stories as a jumping off point to create brand new characters, original scenes songs that could take place in the world of the referenced stories. At the end of the day students will have written and performed their own one-act play!

Walk from school to the HCA!
A free walk-up service to 98 Hayden Rowe will be provided for children attending Hopkins Elementary. Parents pick-up their child at the location of the program you register for. Please make sure you have completed the school dismissal change form at Hopkins Elementary ASAP so that your child can be walked to the HCA. Use "HCA- Hopkinton Center for the Arts" as the person authorized to pick up your child.
Middle School students are welcome to come to the HCA at 98 Hayden Rowe after dismissal to work on homework or free draw until the start of their program.
